The speed of the media herd cycle does not discriminate. It’s as unforgiving to politicians as it is to infamous call girls. Does anyone remember Ashley Alexandra Dupre? Maybe you’re one of the mind boggling 5 million people who have been rocking out to her catchy single “What We Want.” Just last week TMZ wondered what happened; speculating that Joe Francis soaked up her 15-minutes by documenting her antics years ago. Apparently she’s found a lawyer who agrees. Of course, give MediaHerd 5 minutes and we’ll have a lawyer on retainer willing to sue Pope Benedict XVI for fraud.
Former New York Governor Eliot Spitzer’s costly (as in price, career and dignity) call girl filed suit against “Girls Gone Wild” founder Joe Francis today. Given Mr. Francis’ laundry list of legal troubles, he’ll probably relish in this sideshow and celebrate with additional publicity and a spike in sales.
Hopefully some good will come. Ms. Dupre should be an example for young women everywhere – Don’t flash your breasts until you’re famous! When will they learn? The media herd won’t stay interested if you’re already “out there.” Heck, even the Orlando Sentinel has racy photos of Ms. Dupre dating from 2003 that conveniently surfaced from their archives today. What good luck! Surfacing today, of all days, on the day that she files a lawsuit. What timing! MediaHerd gives a “shout out” to the photo archivist(s) at the Orlando Sentinel who made this well-timed discovery.
Bottom Line: If you take off your clothes before you’re famous the media herd won’t care until you become famous. Best wait till you’re famous.
